Mahogany armchair, upholstered in French silk brocade; serpentine crest; knuckled arms with foliage carving; carved Marlborough legs joined by stretchers; original block feet replaced with castors.

Apprenticed as a cabinetmaker in Edinburgh and London, Thomas Affleck emigrated to Philadelphia in 1763. His clients included wealthy Philadelphians, some of them fellow Quakers.
